Lafayette Cemetery No.1, New Orleans

Located in the heart of the Garden District directly across from Commanders Palace, this cemetery showcases the cultural diversity of New Orleans.  Established in 1833, the land was first a plantation sold to the city and now houses many individuals and families from the Civil War and the ‘yellow-fever’ epidemic of the early 1900.

The Abandoned Beetle

As a kid, my favorite movie was Herbie the Love Bug and although I did not speak English, I knew every word, and was able to recite the whole movie.  A friend of my parents had a Beetle that I named “Herbie”, and on a trip to Margarita Island Herbie lost his eyes… at the age of 4, I noticed that someone had stolen the head lights.  It is one of my most vivid anecdotes and candid memory of my childhood in Venezuela.

My fascination with this vehicle goes beyond the machine, it is an emotional connection.  I have never owned a Beetle, but there is always tomorrow.

This series of photographs I took as part of a workshop assignment.  Megan is a co-worker who volunteered her time to model and walk around the French Quarter on an early Sunday morning.

Just yesterday I learned that Megan does not use lipstick; she believes in accentuating only one feature and her eyes take center stage.  Take note people…
